Assists adults who are not native English speakers in reading, writing, and speaking. Basic living and employability skills are taught. Students are placed in class levels with other students who have similar language needs.
This program is designed to help break the cycle of poverty and illiteracy. It combines adult literacy, early childhood education, and parent education. Children attend pre-kindergarten classes while their parents attend an adult education class at the same time. Helps parents earn GED, improve basic skills, or take English As A Second Language classes.
FTCC offers a comprehensive educational program, including over 150 programs of study. In addition, FTCC offers a variety of college transfer programs for those who are pursuing a baccalaureate. Their laboratories are equipped with the latest technology, and outstanding faculty and staff. They are here to assist you in reaching your educational goals. FTCC provides extensive support services that range from academic advising and counseling, to securing financial aid, to assistance in job placement, when you graduate.
Fayetteville Urban Ministry offers a wide variety of programs and services. Some of those services are, emergency assistance with food, clothing, and firewood. They also serve at risk kids, provide house repairs for the elderly and low income families, and help homeless people find suitable housing. Some of the programs provided are, adult literacy, one-on-one mentoring, and student support programs.

Reach Out and Read works through medical provider offices to promote early literacy and school readiness with the distribution of new books to children starting at the six-month checkup, and by talking with parents about the importance of reading aloud to their children. Reach Out and Read utilizes the relationship between parents and medical providers to encourage the development of critical early reading skills in young children.

To encourage the love of reading and learning, the UWCC in collaboration with EMBARQ, launched DPIL in 2005. It is our goal that every preschool child in Cumberland County has his/her own library of books at home. Children registered in DPIL receive a free book at home every month by mail until his/her fifth birthday.
