Provides direct financial assistance to low-income kidney patients in need and education to those who are at-risk for kidney disease. Assists with transportation to dialysis, medications, special diet, kidney donor expenses, and other treatment essentials. Also provides specialty programs to help patients afford treatment during emergency travel and recover from natural disasters.

The program serves North Carolina residents under age 21 with chronic or organic defects or conditions that hinder normal growth and development. Provides financial aid for medical bills including hospital and physician’s bills, rehabilitation, and equipment. Service is for chronic conditions only and not acute conditions. Assists individuals with rare diseases with medically related financial needs, veterans and first responders in need of quality of life enhancements, and underfunded education programs and nonprofit organizations serving these populations.
Helps with medically related needs and quality of life enhancements. Purchases items directly for individuals, which typically include medical equipment, home modifications, and co-payments for treatments or medications not covered by the patient's insurance. Some examples: therapy equipment and sessions not covered by insurance, handicap accessible home and car modifications, mobility items, purchasing of developmental and learning devices, co-pays for medically necessary surgeries and medications, other medical needs as recommended by a medical professional.
Not able to assist with past medical bills, funeral costs, lost family income due to disability or death in the family, experimental procedures that do not have federal or other governmental body approval, In Vitro Fertilization Costs (IVF).
Eligible participants may receive help with glaucoma medications, eye drops for acute infections, cataract surgery when visual acuity is severely affected, laser surgery for diabetes and retinal tears, and emergency eye related surgeries.
Provides health education about sickle cell anemia to schools and interested groups. Trained staff provide testing at no charge. Staff also provides counseling, follow up, and referral to other agencies as necessary and case management services.Limited financial assistance is available for medication. Other projects include research and screening. Manages the Cumberland County Minority AIDS Program which provides information and counseling. Call for information.
